Research is key to ensuring that Canada has a strong, sustainable, thriving grape and wine industry. The Canadian Grapevine Certification Network currently administers the second iteration of the national Grape & Wine Research Cluster, under the SCAP AgriScience Program running from 2023-2028.
This page will be used to provide updates on our application to the AgriScience Cluster Program under the Next Policy Framework that is anticipated to run from 2028-2033.
Collaborative Research Efforts
Through the federal AgriScience Cluster Program, researchers, industry associations, and other key stakeholders are able to come together to engage collaboratively on cutting-edge research being undertaken across the country. Research activities within the cluster take place at AAFC research centres and/or universities or other research institutions in British Columbia, Ontario, Québec, and Nova Scotia.
Latest Update - October 14, 2026
With the anticipated April 1, 2028 launch of a new round of funding under Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's AgriScience Cluster Program, CGCN is already hard at work on preparations with our provincial partners and the national research community!
The following presentation was given to a meeting of grape & wine researchers across the country on October 14th, highlighting what is known so far about the upcoming program, provincial & national research priorities, projected application timelines, and more. Any questions can be directed to CGCN Project Manager Ethan Churchill at ethan@cgcn-rccv.ca.

IMPORTANT NOTE: As the applicant for the national Grape & Wine Cluster, CGCN is expecting to launch the national call for letters of intent (LOIs) sometime in November. This will be done in conjunction with our four provincial member associations: the BC Wine Grape Council, the Grape Growers of Ontario (through Ontario Grape and Wine Research Inc.), the Conseil des vins du Québec, and the Grape Growers' Association of Nova Scotia. Letters of intent should be submitted to these associations according to their specific timelines and requirements, and should not be submitted directly to CGCN. More details will follow.
